What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels that can provide various anti-aging benefits. Patients often turn to them to help soften wrinkles and creases, improve facial contours, reduce scarring, or plump up their lips. Each type of filler has unique properties that target specific aesthetic concerns. With these different therapies at their disposal, our doctors in Scottsdale can provide a completely individualized treatment that meets your personal aesthetic goals.

At Dr. Heringer’s office, Revance Aesthetic’s RHA Collection of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers is preferred. The Teoxane RHA® Collection more closely resembles the natural hyaluronic acid (HA) found in the skin. RHA® Preserved Network Technology produces a less-rigidly crosslinked gel designed to adapt to facial dynamics without compromising durability. This product line portfolio features filler gels that differ in density, allowing for further customization by area, depending on facial movement and underlying facial structures.

RHA Collection

RHA Redensity

The first and only FDA-approved filler for injection into both the superficial dermis and dermis to treat fine lines.

RHA 2

Indicated for injection into the mid-to-deep dermis for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as perioral lines, radial cheek lines, and lip augmentation.

RHA 3

Indicated for injection into the mid-to-deep dermis for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, as well as the vermillion body, vermillion border, and oral commissures to achieve lip augmentation and lip fullness.

RHA 4

Indicated for injection in the deep dermis to superficial subcutaneous tissue for the correction of moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jawline contouring.

Other Popular Products

Belotero Balance (+)

Belotero Balance (+) is a hyaluronic acid injectable filler designed to integrate into facial skin tissue. The unique manufacturing process for Belotero Balance (+) yields a soft and cohesive gel that, once injected, instantly fills the skin to help smooth moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles in the lower face. While the product is versatile enough to handle moderate nasolabial folds (smile lines), lines around the mouth, and chin wrinkles, it may be an ideal option for treating delicate areas such as etched-in vertical lip lines (thin lines that appear above and around the lips), and under-eye hollows.

Juvederm XC

Juvederm XC is a hyaluronic acid (HA)–based filler that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is specially designed to smooth out the lines and creases around your nose and mouth. Juvederm XC can improve the appearance of marionette lines, smile lines, vertical lip lines, and wrinkles extending from the corners of your mouth. Your mouth is one of the first features people notice when speaking with you. A smile that is framed by smooth, even skin can make a lasting impression and increase your confidence.

Restylane

Restylane is another type of HA-based filler that has been formulated to add firmness and volume to your skin. Completely biocompatible and biodegradable, Restylane has been safely used in the United States for nearly two decades and for an even longer period of time in Europe. The gel attracts and binds moisture within the skin, making it appear fuller and softer. Specifically, Restylane promotes evenness and suppleness by filling in the space between the elastin fibers and collagen, which are components of the skin that naturally deplete with age. This product can also be used to enhance the contour and plumpness of your lips for a sexier pout.

Most patients will qualify to receive dermal fillers if they are healthy, do not have active skin infections, and are realistic in their expectations for their results. Dermal fillers are temporary and do not substitute for surgical interventions. However, there are a few contraindications. Pregnant or nursing women should not use them, and those with allergies to any filler ingredients should also avoid the treatment.

Our team will conduct a thorough consultation and skin analysis to ensure that fillers are safe and effective in meeting your unique aesthetic goals.

Your Dermal Filler Journey with Dr. Dustin Heringer

What’s the first step?

To begin, you will meet with Dr. Dustin Heringer and our team of beauty experts in Scottsdale for a private consultation. During this initial meeting, we will listen carefully to your concerns about your appearance and begin crafting a customized solution that considers your goals, comfort levels, and aesthetic tastes. While some patients may desire a bold change, others prefer very subtle improvements, so it is important for us to get on the same page before proceeding.

Your consultation will also involve an in-depth medical history review to ensure no complications arise during your dermal filler session. Once your candidacy has been confirmed and your session date has been booked, we will provide some tips to follow prior to your appointment so that your experience is seamless and you obtain the best possible results.

What to Expect on the Day of a Dermal Filler Treatment

One of our providers will perform your dermal filler treatment to help ensure the highest-quality results. This quick procedure can easily fit into your busy schedule. In fact, most patients have their therapy performed during their lunch hour or while they are out running errands.

The treatment areas may be numbed with a topical gel. Next, your injectable expert will inject small amounts of gel into the predetermined treatment areas. Once treatment is complete, usually in 15-30 minutes, you can return to your usual routine with no downtime. Some patients may experience minor swelling and bruising, which will resolve within a few weeks, and for some, just days, if not sooner.

Your Guide to Post-Dermal Filler Care

Dermal Fillers Recovery

There is no downtime or recovery after dermal fillers, which is ideal for our busy, active patients in Scottsdale. However, to safeguard your results, follow these guidelines: Do not rub, touch, or massage your skin for the first 48 hours after your session, as this can cause the product to migrate to an unintended area. Also, avoid strenuous physical activity for the first few days after your injections.

You should avoid being in intense heat for the first 24-48 hours. This means no saunas, hot tubs, hot showers, sunbathing, or tanning for 2 days after your treatment. Lastly, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages for the first 24 hours after dermal fillers, as alcohol has blood-thinning properties and can worsen swelling or bruising. We want to help you look and feel your best.
